Power And Carbon Markets: How Well-Designed Markets Can Address Climate Change

KAPSARC, in collaboration with the Saudi Association for Energy Economics (SAEE), is pleased to invite you to a lecture and moderated discussion featuring Dr. Michael Pollitt, titled “Power and Carbon Markets: How Well-Designed Markets Can Address Climate Change.” The event will be held on September 22, 2025, at the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center (KAPSARC) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Coffee and reception will begin at 6 p.m.

This event will focus on how well-designed carbon and power markets can work together to support a deep decarbonization of the global economy. The discussion will include an assessment of how Europe’s experience with wide-area carbon and power markets is being adopted globally, particularly in China, and the implications for fossil fuel-exporting countries.

Dr. Pollitt is Professor of Business Economics and Head of the Economics and Policy Subject Group at the Cambridge Judge Business School, Fellow of and Director of Studies in Economics and Management at Sidney Sussex College, and Assistant Director of the Energy Policy Research Group at the University of Cambridge. He has advised the UK Competition Commission, the World Bank, and the European Commission.
